Restaurant Spotlight:

Black Radish Bar & Restaurant

1304 N Monroe St Unit B

This is one of those true local spots where the menu just follows whatever’s coming off nearby farms that week. It’s veggie-forward with hyper-seasonal small plates, fresh handmade pastas, and natural wines, but you can still grab seafood or meat if you want it. Everything is ingredient driven, simple, and built to let North Florida produce shine instead of covering it up.

Our Go-To Order:

  • Ricotta Gnocchi with Butternut Squash Cream (with a little chicken thrown in)

Hidden Gem of the Week:

Lake Jackson Mounds Archeological State Park

3600 Indian Mound Rd, Tallahassee, FL 32303

Lake Jackson Mounds just looks like random grassy hills unless you know what you’re looking at. But those “hills” are actually ancient temple mounds built over a thousand years ago when this was a major hub for Native American culture, trade, and ceremonies. Leaders stood on top of those mounds looking out over what used to be a much bigger Lake Jackson, and entire communities gathered there long before Tallahassee was even a thought. Walking in such a quiet, motionless space makes it easy to remember you’re walking on sacred ground, and there’s an uncanny moment where you start wondering how many people stood in that exact spot before you… and whether some of them ever really left.
